May is multiple sclerosis awareness month and one of the charity’s largest fundraisers is fast approaching.
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic autoimmune disease that affects the central nervous system, including the brain and spinal cord. Canada has one of the highest rates of MS in the world. It’s estimated that 90-thousand Canadians are affected and there are 12 more diagnosed every day.
The MS Walk is a community-driven fundraising event for MS Canada. The local walk is happening on Sunday, May 26th, from the Simcoe Legion. We spoke to Dave Horton, Chairman of the Grand Erie District MS Society about what the fundraising is used for.
MS has seen some real gains from research in recent years. Horton went on to stress the importance of fundraising for research.
Horton is hoping for a large turn out for this year’s walk. Past years were effected by Covid, but they have still been able to reach their fundraising goals.
