Don’t it always seem to go that you don’t know what you got until it’s gone?
They paved the former Norfolk Tavern and now it could a short term parking lot for Norfolk County.
Tuesday night at council, our elected officials were asked to enter into a lease agreement on the property for the summer for $1 to be used as part of the 2024 parking season in Port Dover.
About $9,000 will be needed for to get the property ready for parking, like paving and signage.
At the conclusion of the 2024 paid parking season, staff propose converting the leased lot from paid parking use to a regular municipal parking lot until such time as the land is no longer available to the County.
Essentially the 200 Main Street lot would form part of the existing Clinton Street municipal parking lot and would be available for the public to use at no cost for up to 48 hours from September through to November 15th.
The lot will be closed after November 15th, at which time if the property is still available in the spring of 2025 a lease extension agreement may be negotiated with the property owners, if mutually agreeable.
It’s assumed up to 60 paid parking spaces would be made available and would take in a revenue of at least $25,000 for the summer reason.
