In honour of a local hockey mom’s legacy, the 9th Annual Marci Cook Memorial Tournament is this weekend.
We spoke to Nora Kraushaar, the co-chair of the tournament and a close friend to Marci Cook. The two friends had worked on the tournament for a number of years, and were looking forward to passing the job on to new people.
Tragically, Marci lost her second battle with cancer and a tribute to her efforts seemed obvious. Nora shared Marci’s dedication to local hockey.
The tournament has become a fundraising event for the community. There are a number of places the money raised goes, but the focus is breast cancer awarness in honour of Marci.
The tournament unifies itself under a specific colour, and teams from all over the province look forward to returning.
This year marks the 9th Annual MARCI COOK MEMORIAL TOURNAMENT, and 40th Annual House League Tournament and is sponsored by the Simcoe Arms. Approximately 30 House League and Local League teams are expected to attend.
The tournament runs March 14th to the 17th at Talbot Gardens Arena, Waterford Tricenturena Arena and the Port Dover Arena. Stop in to enter the raffles and draws. Remember to wear your pink to support breast cancer awareness.
