There are many wonderful programs happening year-round at Haldimand-Norfolk Community Senior Support Services.
Last week, we spoke to Safety Coordinator Cristy Major about their Snow Buddies program, but that was just one specific program that was looking for volunteers.
While she was here, we talked to Major about all the other great programs offered by Senior Support Services, including her main focus, which involves making sure homes are as safe as can be for seniors in our community.
The safety at home assessment is free of charge.
While that program focuses on seniors’ physical health, they are also highly focused on mental health for seniors.
That’s why they have social programs for seniors to sign up for.
They want to ensure there isn’t a senior at home with no one to talk to, having other programs such as a senior calls in, and they arrange for a friendly visit from staff or even a daily call to check in.
They saw what isolation did over COVID-19, and they want to ensure that doesn’t continue.
Major added, much like Snow Buddies, they could always use volunteers.
One popular program they offer has people driving individuals to their appointments.
