A recall was issued late last week on Quaker brand granola bars and cereals, and Cap’n Crunch brand Treat Bars – Berry Bar due to Salmonella.
Symptoms typically start six to 72 hours after exposure to the Salmonella bacteria and can include cramps, diarrhea, fever, nausea, vomiting, chills, headache, and bloody stool.
Those infected with the Salmonella bacteria can spread it to others up to several weeks after becoming infected.
Older adults, younger children, people who are pregnant and those with weakened immune systems are at the highest risk for more serious illnesses.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has provided the following recommendations to the public:
- If you think you became sick from consuming a recalled product, contact your healthcare provider,
- Check to see if you have recalled products,
- Do not consume, serve, use, sell, or distribute recalled products,
- Recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the location where they were purchased.
