In Ontario, more than 19,000 volunteer firefighters use personal vehicles with flashing green lights to signal emergency response.
While it’s a courtesy, right now it is not mandatory for motorists to pull over when they see a green light flashing on an oncoming volunteer firefighter’s vehicle. These lights don’t grant speed privileges under traffic laws, but request a safe yield.
The goal is simple: allow firefighters to reach the station promptly.
Though locals are adapting, visitors and newcomers often miss the signal.
So this is your reminder! When you spot that green light, remember that every moment counts.
Pull over and support their mission as it could be your loved one’s emergency they’re rushing to.
