Last Wednesday the owner of SOS Towing & Repair Service, Owen Carson, and two of his team members were in Dutton to receive a Commissioners Citations for Lifesaving from the Ontario Provincial Police.
On February 17, 2022, SOS Towing driver Dave Berry saw an SUV stuck in the ditch and submerged in water.
The driver was stuck in the vehicle, with his head out of the sunroof to escape the water inside his vehicle.
Dave then called Owen (also known as OJ) who attended the scene with his two sons.
While only three of them received the accolades for their fast thinking and lifesaving actions, they were not the only ones who helped to rescue the man.
Carson is very modest about the events of that day, saying that it is all in a day’s work for a tow truck driver.
And while they did receive the citations for this rescue, it is far from the only emergency that they have had to do more than just hook a vehicle up and move it.
Carson’s advice for anyone who ever comes across a situation where someone is in imminent danger or distress, the first thing to do is call 911 and if possible, to remain with the person and try to keep them calm until the authorities arrive.
