There is a desperate need for Hospice care in Norfolk County.
Last week, Michael Godelie spoke to our elected officials as the Chair of Halidmand-Norfolk Hospice.
He has worked first hand with Hospice care and has seen the good it can provide to those going through the worst days of their life.
Sadly, it goes the other way.
He talked about a patient he knew, that would have benefited greatly from a Hospice in the area.
In the end, after a week of back and forth visits to the hospital, they passed away.
Godelie said, in Haldimand and Norfolk, there are too many stories like the one he just shared.
The hope is to get a 16,000 square foot building and several acres of property to get the ball rolling, but it would need to be ideally central to both Haldimand and Norfolk.
After some questions from council, it was noted that ideally the land would be donated as the building it self would be millions of dollars and, in order to get provincial funding, the group would need two years of operating funds set aside.
The request was for council to endorse the idea in a letter, which would go to Provincial officials, which was unanimously approved.
