Today is International Overdose Awareness Day.
Ashley Prues, a nurse practitioner at Norfolk General Hospital, hopes people take a moment to think about those living with addictions today.
She said it is important to know what to do if you are with someone you suspect is experiencing an overdose.
NGH governs Holmes House, an addiction-based community program that offers withdrawal management services and residential treatment programming.
Prues described what those services look like.
While they are there, clients are also connected with counsellors, the Rapid Access Addictions Medicine clinic, and other services that may benefit them in making changes to their substance use.
She said it is very important for them to have all of these supports in place when looking to make this change.
On Overdose Awareness Day this is what she wants you to consider.
Also adding it is another illness where getting help is the number one priority, and if you know someone that needs help connecting them with these services may be the best thing you can do for them.
You can find out more information on how to access the services provided at Holmes House by visiting the Norfolk General Hospital website.
