A unique opportunity for teens in Norfolk County.
The 2853 Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps is accepting applications.
Training Officer Captain Peter Davis says the program, made for those 12 to 18 years old, is a fun, challenging, and safe outlet to build teamwork and leadership skills.
Throughout the program they will be learning hiking and orienteering, camping and survival skills, First Aid training, citizenship training, military drills, and safe handling and marksmanship with air rifles.
He said the pandemic was tough on their numbers.
They are hoping to build on that number and continue to increase the size of the corps.
Outside of the weekly events, the Cadets will be volunteering at community events.
They are hosting an open house at the Simcoe Armoury on Saturday, August 26, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will be accepting applications that day. If you can’t make it that day but are interested in the program you can give them a call at 519-426-5223, email at 2853army@cadets.gc.ca, or stop by the Armoury during one of their Wednesday night meetings.
Cadets meet Wednesday evenings from 6:45 p.m. to 9 p.m. between September and June. They also have occasional weekend events and offer summer camps.
The Cadets is a free program to join with the only cost to parents being transportation to and from the Armoury once a week.
