A concerned Strathroy mother is reaching out to local residents in order to protect her child and others within the community.
Jennifer Courtney recently posted on Facebook urging the community to stop doing one specific thing.
She spoke with our sister station, 105.7 myFM in Strathroy, about her concerns.
Audio PlayerJennifer has a two-and-a-half-year-old child who is severely allergic to peanuts and requires an epipen when in contact with them.
As of late she has been finding shelled peanuts in her backyard, which is causing problems.
Audio PlayerShe says it is terrifying to step into her own backyard with her child knowing that a peanut allergy can be life or death.
Audio PlayerSince moving to Strathroy, she has always found some peanuts in her yard, but as of late the situation has gotten worse.
Audio PlayerShe also notes that peanuts are not the best thing to feed wild animals.
Audio PlayerFeeding wildlife can lead to other problems, besides the risk of anaphylaxis for those with peanut allergies.
Audio PlayerThere are plenty of other options to feed the wildlife that is much healthier for them.
Audio PlayerAccording to Jennifer, people online have been very accepting of her post, however there are always some that use the interned as a spot to say malicious things.
Audio PlayerJennifer is urging the community to think about others before feeding the wildlife something that can be harmful to others.
