A Waterford native was killed in the line of duty in British Columbia last week while helping fight the Donnie Creek wildfire.
Condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of 25-year-old Zachery (Zak) Freeman Muise began pouring.
“Norfolk County is saddened by the loss of this brave firefighter,” said Mayor Amy Martin. “Mr. Muise was helping to keep Canadians safe by battling western wildfires. We owe this courageous man our deepest gratitude.”
In a Facebook post, Haldimand-Norfolk MPP Bobbi Ann Brady posted “I thank all first responders for the work they do each and every day. While there are no words to comfort in this tragic situation, it is my hope that family, friends, and coworkers find peace in the memories they shared with Zachery.”
MP Leslyn Lewis shared “My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and community as they grieve and with the firefighters continuing to valiantly fight forest fires across Canada.”
Those wishing to share condolences with Zak’s family are invited to post on his online Tribute Wall.
