Haldimand-Norfolk is welcoming place for all.
That is the message given to anyone who drives by the County Administration Building in Simcoe, after the Pride flag was raised Thursday morning – just one day ahead of Pride Month.
Mayor Amy Martin, along with Council members Alan Duthie, Kim Huffman, and Adam Veri were on hand for the flag raising on the newly installed Community Flag Pole.
Martin spoke about why it was important for our community to have this flag raised.
As Martin alluded to, Huffman has been a vocal supporter of the LGBTQ+ community, been open about her feelings on items such as the controversial Norwich flag and banner bylaw.
Also on hand for the flag raising was Ryder Mandryk.
She made headlines back last year when she went to council looking for Rainbow Crosswalk to be installed in Simcoe and spoke about why it’s important to raise a pride flag in a rural community.
We will be providing an update on that Rainbow Crosswalk tomorrow morning.
The Pride flag will remain high in the sky over Simcoe throughout the month of June.
