A meaningful friendship has kept a Kingston woman involved in Simcoe minor hockey.
Nora Kraushaar is still one of the organizers of the Marci Cook Memorial Simcoe Arms Tournament that runs through March Break after moving away from the community a few years ago.
Kraushaar originally got involved with the team when her son was going through the program, and that’s where she met Marci.
Near the end of their time with kids in hockey the duo was preparing to be done with planning the tournament, but that was around the time Marci received her breast cancer diagnosis.
This year will be the eighth tournament in Marci’s honour.
Since changing the name, they have turned the tournament into a cancer awareness fundraiser.
Throughout the week of March Break local teams will be playing against each other around the community.
The games will be taking place in Simcoe, Port Dover, and Waterford.
Attending the games is free, but donations will be accepted. They will also have a raffle table with prizes to be won in the arena.
A schedule can be found at simcoeminorhockey.com.
