It’s an opportunity he never envisioned but, in a lot of ways, things have come full circle for Norfolk’s own Kolton Stewart.
Stewart has a reputation in the area for being that Lyndoch boy who made it big, going on to star in shows like Some Assembly Required and a large catalog of movies.
Now, he is excited for an opportunity next year to go on the Stratford Theatre stage in Rent, which should feel like a homecoming as it was on that very stage that this Norfolk kid first saw the shiny stars of Hollywood over the horizon.
Stewart now lives in Stratford, and when an opportunity to go back on stage arrived – he jumped at the opportunity.
His love for the stage and music makes this an ideal opportunity as well, as even those unfamiliar with the Broadway show have likely heard the icon music.
In the stage production he will be playing Roger Davis, an opportunity that up until this year he never really considered to be a possibility.
The production will begin next year with Stewart having his calendar full from February to November with practices and then performances of the play.
Until then, you can keep active keep an eye on his many other projects he either recently completed or that will be coming out in the near future.
Here is a plot summary for Rent from Stratford:
Set in Manhattan in the 1990s and inspired by Puccini’s opera La Bohème, this rock musical by Jonathan Larson follows a group of young East Village artists, performers and philosophers as they struggle through the hardships of poverty, societal discord and the AIDS epidemic in the search for life, love and art. With a song list that includes the iconic “Seasons of Love,” Rent tells a story as relevant today as when it took Broadway by storm more than 25 years ago.
