There will be two new councillors in Ward 5 and Alan Duthie is hoping to fill one of those seats.
With Ian Rabbitts running for Mayor and Ryan Taylor not seeking re-election, the Simcoe area will be electing two new representatives.
Duthie said his passion for council started early, as he began his career in radio as a reporter covering the happenings at Town Hall.
Now, as General Manager of 98.9 myFM and Oldies 99.7, he continues to watch our elected officials frequently as he loves to keep up to date with the latest information regarding the community.
With this connection to community, he would go into the role well aware of the many issues that need to be addressed in Simcoe and abroad.
He said there are also gaps that need to be addressed in county programs and at our local facilities.
He feels it’s important to ask the public what they are looking for when it comes to these tough issue and engaging with them moving forward.
Duthie is no stranger to working in a group setting to resolve an issue or to get things done.
He has spent years working along side other community minded individuals at the Simcoe and District Chamber Of Commerce and the Norfolk County Agricultural Society, having served a tenure as President with both groups.
He also helped spearhead 100 Men Who Give A Damn, believing these roles have laid a solid foundation for this new job.
Sitting at town hall and representing the people in Ward 5 and beyond is very important to Duthie.
He feels it’s best to go into council chambers every week with this top of mind, being a true representative of the people and the community.
One thing that Duthie feels he can bring to council as well is a unique perspective.
He said the county needs to look towards the future, and the people it will affect the most.
Duthie noted that Norfolk has many great staff members as well and he wants them to feel supported by council.
