Haldimand-Norfolk Housing and Homelessness Prevention services are trying to go out and address some issues in our community head on.
They are teaming up with the community paramedic programs in both Haldimand and Norfolk to provide street outreach and housing-related follow-up support to assist people who are experiencing homelessness.
Louise Lovell, program manager for Haldimand-Norfolk Homeless Prevention Services, told us about how the partnership came to be and just why it was so important.
This means in the area, you may see a blue ambulance stopped at various area in the community as staff head out to help.
That was Sarah Page, Chief of Paramedic Services in Norfolk County, who is thrilled to be apart of the innovative idea.
As for the help they are providing, they are casting a wide net.
They will also have lots of documents ready for people who may need some advice and further resources to help them out moving forward.
Lovell says while there are set dates they are out in the community, they also want to hear from the public if they happen to know someone or a group of people who may need assistance.
Callers are asked to provide a specific location or a description of where they have seen people.
The pilot began early in 2022 and is expected to continue through the end of the year.
