It’s Future Leaders Day.
We are profiling Ryder Mandryk.
Ryder is a name very familiar with the community, as this young girl had the courage to stand before our elected officials with a request – a rainbow sidewalk in Simcoe.
Ryder told us a bit about her journey in life so far.
This idea helped Ryder get in contact with other people locally who were appreciative of her efforts.
Unfortunately, not everyone was open to this idea and Ryder and her family faced critics only who were opposed to the idea.
She says staying in contact with other transgender individuals and members of the LGBTQ+ community helps her get through tough times like this.
The goal was to raise $15,000 for the sidewalk and has reached over $7200 so far.
Her goal is to get at least another crosswalk in Port Dover and possibly expand out even further from there.
Since we conducted the interview, Ryder returned to council where our elected officials turned down a proposal to go in 50/50 on the project.
