Karl Allen loves what he does.
He is a Councillor 1 with Norfolk Association for Community Living, which supplies direct support for those living independently.
This means visiting individuals, making sure they are taking their proper medication, connecting them with the community, and just being an ear to listen to how they are doing.
Almost 30 years ago, Karl started with the group as a night supervisor.
His wife had been in the field for some time.
He loved working with individuals so much that he went back to school to be a councillor – and he’s been with NACL ever since.
He says it’s always great for him to see people he assists reach milestones, like a recent individual who was able to walk a horse he was working with out to pasture by himself.
His favourite memory though, involved an individual who had temporarily lost his home and ended up staying with Allen for a period of time, and he always talked about how one of his biggest wishes in life was to drive a car.
