Haldimand-Norfolk MPP Toby Barrett weighed on the Trucker Convoy.
Barrett posted late on Friday a prepared statement on the matter.
He said that it’s heartening to see so many drivers and supporters presenting their concerns peacefully and safely.
He said this is in contrast to the Highway 6 demonstrations, saying “nobody is throwing vehicles off overpasses, blockading highways and burning tires.”
He added his office has heard from both sides of the coin, residents who are supportive and against the convoy – though the majority of these calls and emails have been in favour.
In comment to another post he made, Barrett also said “To those on Facebook and Twitter who are commenting negatively on blocked roads, staged photos of statues in Ottawa, have you ever commented on the 16 years of mayhem and destruction in Caledonia?”
Meanwhile. MP Leslyn Lewis was on scene this Saturday for the Trucker Convoy in Ottawa.
Speaking to Andrew Lawton from True North in a Facebook video, Lewis said the protest in Ottawa is what democracy is all about and asked why wouldn’t she be there to show her support.
She said where government oversteps, the people have a right to voice their opinion – specifically mentioning “hatred spewed from highest levels of government” as being unacceptable.
She said she has always spoken out about things that concerned her constituents, saying the issues at hand is the mandates and whether they are fair or adhere to public health principals.
She believes those who are eligible for vaccination should be able to exercise informed consent on the matter.
