A Norfolk County athlete was recently recognized with a provincial level award.
Nine-year-old Markus Woodley of Waterford was named Baseball Ontario’s Player of the Year in the 13 and under category.
The combination shortstop and left-fielder said his Simcoe Giants team had a rough beginning of the season.
The fourth grade student at Boston Public School shared his favourite memories of the season.
His father, Jay Woodley, who was one of the coaches on the 9U Simcoe Giants team, shared one of his favourite in-game moments of the season.
The young athlete was incredibly excited to recieve the Ontario recognition, after being named Player of the Year of his Simcoe team.
The pair also spoke of the experience riding on the Bickle through town following the announcement. After having moved to the area a few years ago they had not known it was a local tradition after winning an Ontario championship.
