We are looking at the 2021 budget and specifically today – changes to the bulky item pickup.
The changes made during budget talks can be seen as a give and take situation.
The program will no longer run free every two years for residents to put large items out to the side of the road but, with a $25 fee, you can arrange to have a pick up throughout any given year instead of waiting 24 months.
The last bulky item pickup program cost roughly $330,000 and the hope is that, with the service fee and on-demand service, it will offer residents more frequent opportunities to use the program while saving an estimated $75,000 annually.
The program is not ready to launch yet, but once it is operational the county will advise the public.
Here is CAO Jason Burgess going over the decision to switch models for bulky item pickup.
