While they cleared the path on Highway 6, 1492 Land Back Lane still has a large presence in the Caledonia area as other roads remain closed.
The issue at hand, the McKenzie Meadows development and what many at the disputed land feel was a lack of proper consultation, has not been resolved and the opening of the highway was meant as an olive branch to further discussion.
We felt this was a good time to check in with what is happening.
We spoke with Skyler Williams, who has acted as a spokesperson for the movement, for a full-length interview.
Williams has been at the heart of most of the major milestones for Land Back Lane, and he discussed several core issues from the events that lead to the rise of 1492 Land Back Lane, the current situation at the disputed land, and what the future holds.
Williams also touched on multiple other subjects related to Land Back Land, from the elected council approving the development and why Williams said there wasn’t much of a choice, to discussing the destruction of property and police interactions, and finally, Williams spoke directly to the general public with a message he’d like them to hear from those at Land Back Lane.
Williams full interview can be heard below:
