The Norfolk County Fire Department responded to two devastating house fires in one day.
In the early morning on Tuesday, firefighters were called out to Nixon address for a house fire.
Upon arrival, firefighters discovered heavy smoke and fire coming from the rear of the residence.
Firefighters were able to quickly bring the fire under control.
Two occupants were home at the time of the fire. Both occupants and their pets were able to escape and call 911.
Damage to the structure and contents is estimated at $450,000.
No injuries have been reported.
The scene has been turned over to the OPP for further investigation.
Later on the same day, crews were called out to First Avenue home in Port Dover after a fire took over a residence.
Five people were home but managed to escape with assistance from their neighbour.
All occupants were treated by Norfolk County Paramedic Services and transported to the hospital where they were later released.
Fire crews acted swiftly to suppress the fire but unfortunately, the house and contents sustained significant damage.
Due to the extensive damage within the home, it was not safe to conduct an investigation.
The fire is believed to have started in the basement but the cause is undetermined.
Damage is estimated at $600,000.
Both the home and contents were insured.
No firefighters were injured during this fire.
