A nurse under fire has links to Norfolk County.
CBC released a story regarding Nurse Practitioner Kristal Pitter and, specifically, her use of social media to spread her views on vaccines and conspiracy theories regarding COVID-19.
The nurse practitioner shared posted saying that mandatory masks are irresponsible, negligent, and dangerous and put up a link to a YouTube video sharing these views.
Furthermore, on her Facebook page where she identifies herself as a nurse practitioner, she made posts regarding links of vaccines to autism and making claims that the pandemic is an attempt by a cabal of global elites to control the world as well as the theory that tech billionaire Bill Gates plans to use a COVID-19 vaccine to permanently alter people’s DNA.
She was last listed as a long-term care home inspector but CBC reports that her employer is now investigating her due to her controversial posts.
The crux of the story is about public boundaries between personal and professional life and whether one’s personal beliefs have any sway on their ability to fulfil their professional obligations.
CBC News did say they made multiple attempts to reach Pitter but she instead contacted the Oxford County OPP.
The police then told CBC that they would be charged if they reached out for comment again.
Where the story shares a local connection is in Pitter’s previous employment.
Prior to being an inspector, the Ontario College of Nurses has her listed as being employed from 2010 to 2017 with the Haldimand Norfolk Health Unit as a nurse practitioner and then worked as Caressant Care Courtland Nursing Home for a year from 2017 to 2018.
We did reach out to the Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit but they said they could not comment for privacy concerns.
