Both Norfolk County and the Norfolk County OPP are concerned about people’s safety at Pottahawk this weekend.
With COVID-19, Constable Ed Sanchuk is hoping boaters will be able to keep two meters apart from other vessels and stick to their circle of 10 friends for everybody’s safety.
While the Norfolk County OPP offered up a list of safety tips yesterday, Sanchuk has one specific request, asking boaters to not pick up hitchhikers.
Sanchuk continues, pointing out that Pottahawk isn’t really an official event so there isn’t much they can do besides try to keep everybody safe.
Sanchuk says that people ask why “police try to ruin their fun” but points out they deal with a wide variety of alcohol-fueled incidents each year.
This year, he adds, there will be an increased police presence, doing their best to keep everybody safe.
