Farmers in Haldimand and Norfolk are not happy with a recent delivery from the Haldimand Norfolk Health Unit.
During recent visits, farmers were given piles of Health Unit official cards to hand out to their migrant workers.
Labelled Migrant Farm Worker Identification Card – the card asks farmers to fill out their worker’s name, address, arrival date, name of the farm, and the employer’s phone numbers.
That was Chair of Norfolk’s Agricultural Advisory Board Dusty Zamecnik.
He said while the card was considered optional, the idea behind it doesn’t sit right.
Another issue raised by Zamecnik and farmers is the idea of mistrust from the health unit that farmers would allow their employees to “disobey” social distancing and self-isolation rules.
We are having a conference call with Dr. Shanker Nesathurai at 11 a.m. this morning.
We will update this story following that call.
