Port Dover’s Canada Day celebration has been cancelled.
The Port Dover Lions explained that they felt it was important to do everything they can to limit the spread of COVID-19, pointing out that the health and safety of the Port Dover Community, volunteers and event participants is their top priority.
Among the cancelled events are the Boat Parade, the Soap Box Derby, the dog show, concert and fireworks.
In a release, Port Dover Lions president Paul Boulanger says that it was a difficult decision, but the amount of planning and resources required for the events made it difficult to delay the decision any further.
Their release also states that the 68th annual Fish Fry and Not a Stag Night event has also been cancelled.
Originally scheduled for June 6th, the event had been rescheduled to August 15th.
The Lions’ Show and Shine Nights that are held each Monday were supposed to begin on May 25th, but have now been suspended until further notice.
Boulanger says the announcement is disappointing, but he’s looking forward to making the annual events bigger and better for 2021.
