Beginning this September, students in the Grand Erie District School Board will see some changes to Grand Erie’s Secondary French Immersion program in Haldimand and Norfolk.
Students from Caledonia Centennial Public School, River Heights School, Lakewood Elementary School and Walsh Public School were to attend a new Secondary French Immersion program at Simcoe Composite School this fall.
However, preliminary enrolment for the French Immersion program sits at around 13 students.
Senior Administration has determined that because of the low number of students, uncertainty around class size caps, and the general decline of secondary school enrolment Grand Erie should change the program designation from French Immersion to Extended French.
This means students enrolled will get 7 credits instead of 10.
Trustees agreed with the recommendation and directed the Senior Administration to move forward.
