The Norfolk Hammerheads will see some familiar faces at the Canadian Olympic trials this spring.
Recent, 15-year-old Hannah Ward swam a 27.17-second race in the 50-meter freestyle at the Mallards Winter Invitational hosted at the Markham Pan Am Centre.
The Waterford native has only been a competitive swimmer for six years but her time of 27.17 earned her the right to compete at the Canadian Olympic Trials for the Tokyo Olympics.
She’ll join Zach Zona, a para-national swimmer who has already qualified for the national program in para-swimming before.
Zona is a seasoned trial swimmer already, he attended his first trial in 2012 at the age of 14 and the last trial for the Paralympics in 2016.
The Hammerheads hope that alumni swimmer Gordon Shortt will also join them in competing for a chance on the National team.
Shortt, who’s swimming for Acadia University, is close to making trial times.
