The Local 8782 of Nanticoke provided the Salvation Army in Simcoe with a back-to-school surprise yesterday.
The local United Steel Workers union donated 100 backpacks- with school supplies, as part of Operation Backpack 2019, an initiative from the Hamilton and District Labour Council.
Randy Graham is the President of Local 8782, he says that they want to provide good news stories of unions helping out the community.
He emphasizes that the initiative was fundraised by members of the union and explains that two types of backpacks were donated.
Graham says that oftentimes it seems like people tend to walk past people who may be struggling, he hopes that the theme of all the fundraising they do is that people should look out for one another.
