Norfolk’s cat epidemic is still a problem.
Purrfect Companions of Norfolk sent out a release highlighting just the latest in a string of incidents they have discovered – two kittens with chest infections and covered in fleas tied up in a bag and tossed to the side of the road.
They said after two baths the water was still red due to the blood and flea feces on the animals.
Thankfully, they have been medicated and are now flea-free and safe in Purrfect Companions care.
The issue at hand is that these felines join a large group of other cats under their care as the cat populations continue to boom.
The group says last week alone they took on 25 more kittens and between January and July they had adopted out 331 cats.
So far this year they have taken in 450 cats in total.
In 2018 the shelter’s vet expenses exceeded $200,000 and the total costs to run the shelter exceeded $300,000.
Forecasted expenses for 2019 will be more than $325,000.
With that, they are asking if anyone is willing to help through volunteer work or donating items or cash to contact them.
