ROMANCE SCAM PICKS UP AS WE APPROACH VALENTINE'S DAY
2/9/2018 7:11:14 AM

The Norfolk OPP is warning the public against a scam that involves a con artist romancing victims through social media.

Once a base of trust is established, the fraudster will begin asking for money so the two can be together.

It is estimated Canadian victims have lost more than $17 million to this scam in 2017, according to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.

With Valentine's Day less than a week away, the Norfolk OPP is asking residents to protect themselves and help spread the word about the scam.
