Food insecurity remains a concern in Haldimand-Norfolk.

The Health Unit is reporting the average monthly cost to feed a family of four in the area is close to $870.

For a family of four with an average income, this is not too much worry about, but if you are a single man on Ontario works paying roughly $290 on groceries, it's a much different story.

That was public health dietitian Laura Goyette.

She says the Health Unit is advocating for help such as increasing social assistance rates and providing medical expenses for those considered low income.

Latest data shows Haldimand-Norfolk has just under 11 percent of the population struggling with food insecurity or roughly 12,000 individuals, and that health unit says they will keep advocating for them.
