COUNCIL GIVES UP ON ITS FIGHT TO RELOCATE METHADONE CLINICS

It's Status Quo for Methadone Clinics in Norfolk County.

Staff had been asked by our elected officials to come back to council with a report looking at zoning these opioid treatment centers out of concerns of their current locations in Downtown Simcoe.

Planner Mat Vaughan says staff has looked at other municipalities and things don't look good.

Council asked several questions, even about zoning these clinics to be allowed anywhere except downtowns, but there was fear about legal action as this would go against the human rights code.

Councillor Doug Brunton moved the motion to keep things the way they are but noted, even if they legally can't do anything, he feels this openness to locate in so many areas is a concern.

The motion was passed shortly after.
