Provincial police say 444 distracted driving charges were laid during a crackdown over the Labour Day weekend.

They say many motorists appeared to be ignoring warnings not to use cellphones or other hand-held devices while driving.

Police say the numerous weekend distracted driving charges bring 2017's total number close to the nine-thousand mark.
