GROUPS SEEKS A SPIKE ON HST TO FUND MUNICIPAL INFRASTRUCTURE

A one percent increase to your HST.

That's what is being proposed by AMO, a group looking for the best interest of municipalities in Ontario.

The reason for the proposed increase is that the one percent would then go to municipalities to fund infrastructure projects.

The issue was brought up at Town Hall by Councillor John Wells noting the situation our municipalities are in.

With the current HST, Municipalities only collect around 9 cents on the dollar.

AMO says this 1 per cent increase could see $2.5 Billion going into Municipal Infrastructure.
