COUNCIL TO LOOK AT COMBINING THE ST. WILLAMS FIRE HALL WITH PORT ROWAN

Norfolk County is now looking at the possibility of combining the St. William's Fire Hall with Port Rowan's.

Last week, our elected officials gave the go-ahead for the St. William's Fire Station and Norfolk EMS to look at locations where they could share a building.

This week, Councillor Doug Brunton pulled that motion, saying that it would be in their best interest to consider a shared spot for the St. Williams Fire, EMS, and Port Rowan's Fire Department.

When you look at the map, out of all the fire stations, these two overlap substantially for their coverage area.

Councillor Noel Haydt was firmly opposed to the idea, going with the recommendations of our local expert.

Haydt said the move would also increase insurance for homeowners if it went through.

Brunton's motion was to have staff consider the option of combining stations with the Port Rowan Hall which still leaves an option to keep the both stations open if that is the best choice.

Our elected officials agreed to have staff look into the possible merger.
