NORFOLK AND OXFORD COUNTIES MAY GO TO WAR OVER ZONING OF THE NORFOLK MALL

Is a Norfolk County property suffering only to benefit Tillsonburg?

That was the debate Tuesday night at Town Hall as our elected officials looked at the draft policy for Norfolk's 5-year Official Plan.

Part of the document involves rezoning the Norfolk Mall near Tillsonburg to a Shopping Centre instead of a Hamlet, which it is currently designated.

However, that is being met with some push back from Oxford County.

Councillor Noel Haydt was not having any of that.

He feels Norfolk has been holding back on the potential of this building just to benefit a downtown core that isn't ours.

He wants to see big box stores come to the Norfolk Mall but under current zonings, any expansion of that mall would need to go through an Impact Study showing how it would affect Tillsonburg's downtown core.

Haydt's comments were taken into consideration with the draft proposal being passed for now, with a note that items can be changed later on down the road once they officially implement the plan.
