ALLISTON BIA HOPES NORFOLK COUNTY CAN LEARN FROM THEIR MISTAKES DEALING WITH METHADONE CLINICS

As we told you on Wednesday, Norfolk Council is looking to regulate Methadone Clinics coming into Downtowns across the County, but they certainly aren't the first to take this step.

Norfolk County is not treading on new grounds looking to prevent Methadone Clinics from going to downtown cores as New Tecumseth Council made changes to their by-laws only allowing these clinics in areas zoned Urban Light Industrial which would not permit them to enter downtowns.

myFM spoke with Mike Jerry, Chair of the Alliston BIA, who says the town of Alliston saw a similar effect on their Downtown Core that councilors in Norfolk are reporting after the opening of their downtown clinic.

Councillor Doug Brunton even stated during Tuesday night's council meeting that he'd like to see if he can move our current clinics away from Downtown Simcoe.

Jerry says legally, there's nothing Norfolk can do, but it's no impossible if you're willing to talk it out.

Staff is set to come back with a report looking at ways to zone Methadone Clinics in Norfolk County.
