A boat fire occurred at Turkey Point on a Tuesday morning. The Norfolk County Fire Department reported that a boat operator noticed the fire starting while still in the dock area. The operator moved the 33-foot powered vessel safely away and anchored it before swimming back to shore.
The Norfolk County Fire Department and the Coast Guard detachment were called out, but because the boat was anchored far from land, shore-based firefighting efforts were challenging.
Eventually, the fire diminished enough for the Coast Guard to complete firefighting operations. The loss is estimated at $100,000.
